Paddock Maintenance Services

A good cover of nutrient-rich grass is your greatest asset in the paddock. It allows your horses to enjoy natural grazing for an extended period of time, reducing reliance on supplementary feeds. Our paddock maintenance services are designed to keep your grass in optimum condition.

In early spring, harrowing removes the dead grass and muck from the paddock. This helps the new shoots to access the light and oxygen needed to grow. At this time of year, we can also undertake grass seeding and rolling to improve the quality of your paddock. If weeds have got out of control, this is also the time for our spraying services, before the weeds get established and go to seed.

In late spring and summer, we can be tasked with topping. The ideal length for paddock grass is 5cm, as this offers nutrient rich shoots which are resilient to being trodden on.

Muck Away Services

Straw bales are typically 1 meter in length, by half a meter in width and depth. If you are trying to work out how many to order, one bale would comfortably seat two adults or three children.

Equestrian Fencing

We offer a wide range of fencing systems designed to meet your needs, including:

The winter months are the ideal time to maintain, repair or replace equestrian fencing. Paddocks are often bordered with a post and rail solution. In the fields, it is more common for high-tensile wire equestrian fencing to be used. Hill View Farm can supply and install either option or a combination of the two.

For post and rail fencing, the posts are typically 1.8 meters apart, with a choice of three, four or five vertical rails. With equestrian fencing, posts are driven deep into the ground every 3-4 meters in order to support the equestrian fencing and strainers are positioned every 50m.

Equestrian fencing has smaller gaps in the wire than standard stock fencing. This is designed to prevent hooves from being caught in the wire. In addition, equestrian fencing has no sharp edges to further minimise the risk of injury.
